From James Tufenkian:
A tribal Armenian Kazak weave rug. The Bordjalu rugs feature a simpler design with particular use of latch hooks in large scale motifs. Bordjalu is a bold, archetypal design executed in vibrant colors of madder red, olive green, deep navy blue, light sky blue, soft yellow and ivory. This rug is among the most distinctive Armenian carpet designs, incorporating deeply meaningful symbols into the bright and energetic palettes. This Bordjajlu rug is hand knotted of 100% Armenian wool on a wool foundation and adorned in wool fringe. Historically the Bordjalou rugs were woven in a district just south of Tiflis, an area known for producing the heaviest and most coarsely woven Kazaks. The Tufenkian Kazak rugs however all have a pile height around a third of an inch. This piece measures 05 x 07.
